Hanoi (VNA) – Duong Thuy Vi, one of thebest Vietnamese wushu warriors to compete in the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), has affirmed that she would do her utmost to bring home a gold medal, according to the Organising Committee.

Vi said she and her team are in the final stage ofan intensive training for the regional sport event, which requires highconcentration.

Coaches have regularly conducted tests to assesstheir preparations, she said, expressing her determination to play in theGames.

Once the athlete avoids making mistakes and wellperforms in Taolu, which refers to the set routine (form) practice component ofwushu, he or she would win the championship, Vi said.

“I have waited for this opportunity to perform inSEA Games at home for a long time. For me, apart from good luck, it is myhonour to compete in the Games,” the wushu artist said. “I am resolved to reap thehighest achievements.”

Despite significant pressure when playing as thehost athlete, Vi believed that the cheer from audiences will be a great sourceof encouragement for her.

SEA Games 31, themed “For a Stronger South EastAsia”, will be held in the capital city of Hanoi and 11 neighbouring provincesand cities.

Featuring 40 sports with 526 events, it is expectedto attract around 10,000 participants. The biennial event was initially slatedfor late 2021 but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic./.
