Binh Dinh (VNA) – Nearly 80 professors, scientists and researchers from 17 countriesgathered at an international conference themed “Star formation in differentenvironments” that opened at the International Centre of InterdisciplinaryScience Education (ICISE) in Quy Nhon city, the central province of Binh Dinh,on August 7.

As part ofactivities of the 13th “Rencontres duVietnam” (Meet Vietnam) science programme, the event also drew the participation of 30Vietnamese students who love science from universities across the country.

The conference, tolast until August 12, is jointly held by the Meet Vietnam Association, theMinistry of Science and Technology and the Binh Dinh province People’sCommittee.

The conference willhighlight the recent advances in wide-field and high resolution surveys anddetail numerical simulations of star formation in different environments, fromindividual star to galaxy systems. The idea is to search for a universalpicture of star formation across all scales and also identify thecharacteristics of each individual scale.

The goal of theconference is to share the different views from different research communitiesby balancing contributions from different categories and to encouragecollaborations between researchers across the globe.

Prof. Tran ThanhVan, head of the conference’s organisation board and Chairman of the MeetVietnam Association, said the event offers an opportunity for domestic andinternational scientists to exchange.

In his openingremarks, Vice Chairman of the Binh Dinh province People’s Committee Tran Chausaid the 13th “Meet Vietnam” programme is expected to help promoteresearch, innovation, exploration and invention activities in Vietnam.

Vietnam is actively yet cautiously preparing for the construction of its first nuclear power plant in Ninh Thuan (now the south-central coastal province of Khanh Hoa). The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.
