Washington (VNA) – The 10th Vietnam-US Joint CommitteeMeeting on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (JCM10) took place in WashingtonDC from October 15-17.

The biennial meeting is organised as part of science and technology cooperationbetween Vietnam and the US.

Speaking after the session, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui TheDuy said at the meeting, both sides focused on measures to bolstercollaboration in healthcare and health science, agriculture and bio-technology andpreservation science.

New initiatives to develop an innovation and startup eco-system were consideredat the event, together with the establishment of a new working group on innovationand entrepreneurship.

Noting the achievements of the JCM working groups, US Principal DeputyAssistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Oceans, Environment and Science(OES) Judith Garber stressed that Vietnam is a comprehensive partner of the US.

In that context, science, technology and innovation will play a key role inpromoting the Vietnam-US partnership, she added.

Heads of the working groups reported on their activities, including scientificresearch on cancer prevention, cooperation in gene resource evaluation,bio-tech application in harvest, post-harvest and farm produce processing.

They consented to promote cooperative activities agreed in the JCM10, and willconcretise collaboration via an action plan for 2019-2020.-VNA

The networks bring together universities, research institutes and domestic and foreign businesses. Members will work closely in training, research, and technology transfer by sharing curricula, improving faculty capacity, providing access to laboratories and research facilities, and jointly implementing science and technology projects.

The resumption of the programme after years of suspension carries considerable significance for the nation’s development in a new era as it strives to gradually reduce and ultimately phase out coal-fired power to realise the Government’s commitment to Net Zero by 2050.

Vietnam has issued many key policies to support semiconductor development, notably the Politburo’s Resolution 57 on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation. Other initiatives include the Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050, and the Human Resources Development Programme for the Semiconductor Industry.
