Hanoi (VNA) – Repairs to the 25R/07L runway at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCM City were completed and it was put into operation at 17:30 on July 20, according to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).

The repairs were completed 12 hours earlier than planned and the runway was only closed from 10:48 to 17:30.

The airport was forced to close the runway for repair due to damage caused by lighting in a thunderstorm in the night of July 19.

After receiving a report from the ACV, the airport authority and the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam agreed to allow the airport to temporarily close the runway to serve the repairs from 10:48 on July 20 to 17:00 on July 21, causing the airport’s capacity to temporarily be reduced from 42 to 32 flights per hour.

ꦰ The incident forced airlines to adjust their plans and draw up possible scenarios. However, there has been no specific information on the number of flights delayed by the incident.-VNA
