Red Cross Volunteer Youth camp opens

Nearly 600 young people who have excelled in voluntary missions nationwide are attending the fourth National Red Cross Volunteer Youth Camp which opened at Nha Rong wharf, Ho Chi Minh City, on August 2.

They have welcomed the participation of foreign peers from Red Crossand Crescent societies of Malaysia, Maldives, Laos, Japan, Singapore andThailand.

The three-day gathering will take the young peoplein trips to recall the nation’s glorious history, with destinationsincluding -- Nha Rong wharf, Revolutionary Museum, Independence Palace,War Remnants Museum, Cu Chi tunnel and Can Gio revolutionary base.

Competitions on first aid skills, communication proficiency and teamwork display will be included.
On this occasion of the Action Month for AO Victims in August,campers will visit and present gifts to Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victimsand venerable people.

On August 3, they will be joined byover 5,000 Red Cross volunteers in HCM City in a walk showing supportfor AO victims and people with disabilities.

Nguyen Hai Duong,President of the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC), said the festival honourskind-hearted young people and encourage more good deeds to be taken fordisadvantaged people.

According to VRC, Vietnam has 239,000 volunteers and 3,290,000 Red Cross young members.-VNA
