Quang Tri, Lao border province review cooperation

A high-level discussion took place in Quang Tri on July 24 to review the implementation of a cooperation agreement signed between the hosting central province and the Lao border province of Salavan.

Quang Tri (VNA) – A high-level discussion tookplace in Quang Tri on July 24 to review the implementation of a cooperationagreement signed between the hosting central province and the Lao border provinceof Salavan.

As heard at the function, following the pact inked on July4, 2016, the two localities have carried out communication campaigns to raisepublic awareness on border regulations and the territorial jurisdictions of bothLaos and Vietnam.

They have joined hands to tackle undocumented migration andmarriage, and implemented a twin-village model, encouraging residents from bothsides of the Vietnam-Laos border to support each other in socio-economicdevelopment and bilateral trade.

Quang Tri has offered politics and administration trainingfor 25 Salavan public personnel on an annual basis. The Quang Tri College of Educationhas trained five students from the Lao province on Vietnamese language. It is nowalso training another five on information and technology.

At the discussion, Chairman of the Quang Tri People’sCommittee Nguyen Duc Chinh urged the two sides to boost cooperation in allfields.

He said Quang Tri will speed up the building ofinfrastructure at the local La Lay international border gate and a transportsystem connecting the province with the Ho Chi Minh Road to facilitate traveland goods flow.

Quang Tri will continue assisting Salavan in training itspupils, students, and personnel, as well as creating the best conditionspossible for local enterprises to invest in the Lao locality.

Governor of Salavan Sisouvan Vongchomsy praised Quang Tri’seducational system, saying many of the Lao students and personnel trained thereare now holding high positions in Salavan.

The Lao official also noted that Quang Tri’s commune-levelhealth facilities along the border have supported Salavan in taking care of itsresidents’ well-being.-VNA
