Quang Ninh (VNA) – The northeastern province of Quang Ninh’s grossregional domestic product (GRDP) has been estimated at 10.05 percent in 2020 despitethe adverse impact of COVID-19.

The province’s State budget collection is projected at 49.3 trillion VND (2.13billion USD), surpassing the year’s target by 9.4 percent and up nearly 7percent compared to the same period of 2019.

Budget collection from export-import activities surged by 29 percent againstthe estimates, while domestic collection fulfilled the set target with 37trillion VND, rising 7 percent.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People’sCouncil Nguyen Xuan Ky said the province will spare no efforts in carrying outthe dual targets of protecting people’s lives and boosting socio-economicdevelopment in the coming year, especially keeping its GRDP growth in thedouble digits.

The province has set a goal to have modern industry and service sectors andbecome one of the region’s comprehensive and dynamic development hubs by 2025.

At its 21st session held in December 2020, the People’s Council of Quang Ninh province targeted an annual GRDP growth rate of about 10 percent for the 2021 - 2025 period.

The council discussed and issued a resolution on the province’s five-year socio-economic development plan for 2021 - 2025 with comprehensive solutions.

Accordingly, Quang Ninh will strive to continue promoting the implementation of three strategic breakthroughs, with priority given to key transport projects and projects with high connectivity, economic zones, industrial parks, and seaport infrastructure to form international service and transport infrastructure connection hubs.

It is also set to complete Van Don - Mong Cai Expressway, Ha Long - Cam Pha coastal road, Cua Luc 1 and 3 bridges in 2021, and the western route of the high-speed riverside road by 2025.

Despite the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to the right and timely policies of the provincial Party Committee and the drastic direction of the provincial People's Committee, Quang Ninh has successfully obtained the "dual goals" of COVID-19 control and socio-economic development, achieving an economic growth rate of over 10 percent in 2020.

In 2021, Quang Ninh aims to maintain its GRDP growth rate at more than 10 percent and total state budget revenue of over 51 trillion VND.

The province is working to sustain its position in the top group in the country in terms of the provincial competitiveness index (PCI), the Public Administration Reform (PAR) Index, the Satisfaction Index of Public Administrative Services (SIPAS), and the provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI).

Quang Ninh is viewed as a strategic destination in northern Vietnam and an important link in the northern economic growth triangle of Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh.

Over the past five years, it has experienced high and sustainable growth, with an average annual growth rate of 10.7 percent. Average GRDP per capita is estimated at 6,700 USD in 2020, two times higher than the country’s average figure.

It topped the PCI rankings for the third year in a row in 2019, according to the PCI 2019 report from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

In addition to the PCI, the province led the country in the PAR Index for three consecutive years, in 2017, 2018, and 2019. It has also been among the best performers in the SIPAS for many years and rose to the top in 2019.

It has also made great strides forward in improving governance and public administration capacity, moving from 62nd place in 2016 to third in Vietnam’s 2019 PAPI list./.
