Dinh Van Giau in An Hai commune, Ly Sondistrict on November 2 had a new fishing vessel, which was built withthe support by Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the Quang NgaiFishermen Support Fund.

He said he is very happy tohave the new boat to continue his fishing activities in the waters ofHoang Sa archipelago, thus contributing to developing the local economyand protecting the national sea and island sovereignty.

The same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Commit tee presented 90fish-detectors and long-distance communication devices worth over 2billion VND (94,000 USD) to members of the An Hai and An Vinh fishingtrade unions in the district.

The gifts will makelocal fishermen’s catch more effective, thus increasing outputs, saidDuong Minh Lanh, a fisherman in Ly Son district.

Sinceits establishment two years ago, the provincial Fishermen Support Fundhas received over 5 billion VND (235,000 USD) from many agencies,businesses and individuals inside and outside the country as aid forlocal fishermen.

With a total of 40 billion VND (1.88million USD) raised, the fund has helped build seven fishing vesselsand provided assistance for over 300 fishermen, who met with accidentswhile operating offshore.

The timely support hashelped fishermen in Quang Ngai stabilise their lives and maintainoperations at sea, contributing to protecting the national sea andisland sovereignty.-VNA
