Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam recorded positive developments in public order and safety between January and June, with crimes against social order falling by 22.55% compared to the same period last year, according to a press conference held on July 7 by the Ministry of Public Security.
In the field of economic crime, 2,096 cases involving 4,194 suspects were prosecuted. For corruption and position-related crimes, 370 cases and 1,042 suspects were brought to trial. Meanwhile, police uncovered 11,687 drug-related cases involving 22,863 individuals.
Traffic accidents saw a notable decrease in all three criteria. A total of 9,398 accidents occurred nationwide, leaving 5,293 dead and 6,246 injured. Compared to the same period last year, this marked a decline of 3,009 accidents (24.25%), 201 fatalities (3.66%), and 3,203 injuries (33.9%).
The number of fire incidents, meanwhile, dropped by 24.67% year-on-year, with 1,710 cases reported, causing 42 deaths and 48 injuries.
New regulations on traffic violations, including the Government’s Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP, were strictly enforced, delivering tangible results and positively influencing public awareness and behaviour.
At the press briefing, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, chief of the office and spokesperson of the ministry, said that in the second half, the people’s public security forces will continue innovating their approach to national security protection. They will enhance operations across various areas, aligned with new spatial conditions and development demands in the country’s new era.
He noted that the entire sector will focus on maint🌜aining security and public order,🐈 ensuring the smooth operation of the two-tier local administration system, and contributing to the success of the upcoming all-level Party congresses and the 14th National Party Congress. It will also take the lead in implementing major resolutions serving national development./.
