Programme on “100 resilient cities” launched in Da Nang

The “100 resilient cities” programme which is pioneered by the US’s Rockefeller Foundation was launched in Vietnam at a workshop in the central city of Da Nang on November 21.
The “100 resilient cities” programme which is pioneered by the US’sRockefeller Foundation was launched in Vietnam at a workshop in thecentral city of Da Nang on November 21.

At the event,participants discussed the “resilience” concept and the programme’sapproach to “resilience” and studied experience that the Institute forSocial and Environmental Transition of the US has drawn out from thecarrying out the programme on climate resilient Asian cities network.

Expertsalso proposed specific orientations and solutions for Vietnam ingeneral and Da Nang in particular to deal with problems arising in thefour main domains of urban planning, social security and economicdevelopment, the environment and coping with climate change.

Vice Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee Phung Tan Viet said theprogramme gives Da Nang a good chance to access new knowledge andexperience in enhance the capacity to cope with any shocks or disasters.
The programme of “100 resilient cities” attempts to helpworldwide cities to develop plans and prepare their community for bettercope with and recover from shocks, tensions and disasters in the 21stcentury.

In late 2013, the programme selected Da Nang as one of the first 33 cities to implement the programme’s foremost phase.-VNA

Vietnam contribuܫtes to international court's advisory opinion on climate chওange

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. Following the resolution's adoption, Vietnam fully participated in all procedural steps for the first time, from submitting written proposals to presenting directly at the court’s hearings.
