Prime Minister’s WEF attendance, Hungary and Romania visits hold great significance: Deputy FM

Hanoi (VNA)ﷺ – Deputy Minister ofForeign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang has granted an interview to the press highlightingthe significance of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's upcoming trip to Davos,Switzerland to attend the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF-54) and his officialvisits to Hungaryand Romania from January 16-23.

Hangsaid the WEF-54, themed "Rebuilding Trust", will take place fromJanuary 15-19, marking the largest gathering since the onset of the COVID-19pandemic. With nearly 100 senior leaders from countries and internationalorganisations, around 3,000 executives from global corporations and businesses,this year's meeting will stand out as the world’s largest event to share ideas,engage in compelling discussions on the prospects of the world economy, explorenew trends, and envision global development.

It will also encourage economic, trade and investment connectivity among nations and businesses, while pooling global collective strength, particularly through public-private partnership, to generate new growth impetuses and address common challenges amid existing difficulties, risks and uncertainties, she said.

According to Hang, this will present a crucial moment for Vietnam to showcase its achievements, development directions and strategies, and foreign policies, delivering a message about a dynamic and innovative Vietnam as an attractive destination for global corporations.

🐼 PMChinh’s attendance at the meeting, along with his sharings and proposals on theglobal development situation, solutions to stimulate growth and addressemerging challenges, will further affirm Vietnam's responsible and effectivecontributions to peace, development and common concerns, thereby enhancing thecountry's position and reputation on the international stage, particularlywithin the global business community.

The meeting will also offer an opportunity for Vietnam to enhance exchangesand promote cooperation with Switzerland, other partners and internationalorganisations across various sectors, especially in economy, trade andinvestment in line with the foreign policy set by the 13th National Party Congress, she went on.

She revealed PM Chinh’s busy agenda at the meeting,including delivering speeches at major sessions, chairing dialogues withexecutives of global corporations, meeting bilaterally with leaders ofcountries, international organisations and businesses.

From the experience and lessons of Vietnam and ASEAN, Hang said the PM willpropose both immediate and long-term solutions to strengthen internationalsolidarity, rebuild trust, and promote cooperation among nations, betweengovernments and businesses and partners.

🍸 Vietnam'sresponsible contributions to addressing global challenges, particularly inareas of its strengths such as food security, smart agriculture, climate changeadaptation and just energy transition, will also be highlighted.

ThePM will share experience in macroeconomic management, and Vietnam's readinessto attract investment, especially in priority areas such high technology,research and development, green transition, digital transformation and circulareconomy.

Lastly,the Vietnamese delegation will engage in discussions and propose directions toleverage the potential, strengths and central role of ASEAN and Vietnam inpromoting growth, consolidating trade and investment linkages, globalsupply and value chains. This aims to contribute to economic recovery and resilienceof the global economy, she added.

Accordingto the Deputy FM, at the invitations of Hungarian Prime Minister ViktorOrbán and Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, immediately after attendingthe WEF annual meeting in Davos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wifewill pay official visits to Hungary and Romania from January 16-22. These arethe first delegation exchanges at the Prime Minister level between Vietnam andHungary in the past seven years and between Vietnam and Romania in five years.

She said Hungary and Romania were two of the first 10countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations withVietnam after it gained independence. Looking back on the past over 70 years,the Governments and people of the two countries have always given Vietnam greataffection and support in the past fight for independence and national reunification,as well as in innovation and socio-economic development at present.

Duringthe COVID-19 pandemic when Vietnam was facing the most difficulties, Hungaryand Romania were the first countries to provide Vietnam with hundreds ofthousands of vaccine doses and medical equipment, helping the country overcomethe epidemic soon and open the doors for economic recovery, she added.

Hungary and Romania have also actively supported Vietnam in the comprehensivepartnership and cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union (EU),especially in the process of negotiating, signing and ratifying the EU-VietnamFree Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement(EVIPA). Romania has made every effort to hasten the signing of the EVFTA onthe last day of its rotating EU presidency. Hungary was the first EU memberstate to ratify the EVIPA.

“Onthe foundation of traditional friendship spanning three-quarters of a century andin the context of a complex world situation, the PM visits play a veryimportant role in continuing to consistently implement the foreign policy ofindependence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of foreignrelations, especially with traditional partners and friends,” Hang noted.

During the visits, PM Chinh will have talks, meetings,contacts, and working sessions with senior leaders of Hungary and Romania, aswell as visit localities, universities, research centers, businesses, Vietnam’sfriendship associations with Hungary and Romania, and the Vietnamese communitiesin the two nations.

🅷 The visits will contribute to further increasing political trust, strengtheningthe traditional friendship and mutual support between Vietnam and the twocountries; bringing traditional areas of cooperation such as economy, trade,labour, culture, education and human resource training to a new stage to meetthe development requirements of each country; promoting collaboration inpotential and strong fields such as science and technology, information and communication,pharmaceuticals and innovation; and further tightening the friendship betweenthe people of Vietnam and those of Hungary and Romania./.
