Prime Minister urges stronger efforts to build e-Government
The Government is urging ministries, sectors and localities to accelerate the development and application of information technology and the building of an e-Government.

Hanoi (VNA) – TheGovernment is urging ministries, sectors and localities to accelerate thedevelopment and application of information technology and the building of ane-Government.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remarkon March 2 in a written response to a question on the issue raised by NationalAssembly deputy Ta Van Ha of Bac Lieu province.
He said the Government is stepping up efforts tobuild an e-Government to serve administrative reforms, which has resulted in positiveoutcomes over the years.
In 2016, Vietnam was ranked 89th among 193countries in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI). Notably,the online services index jumped eight places from the previous EGDI in 2014 to74th.
Twenty-six ministries, ministry-level agenciesand those directly subordinate to the Government along with all 63 provincesand centrally-run cities have had their document management systemsinter-connected. All localities and 19 ministries and sectors have publicisedthe progress of handling papers on the Government Portal.
They have also provided more online publicservices at level 3 and 4, the highest levels of online services provision inVietnam, PM Phuc noted.
However, he admitted, those are just initialoutcomes, and only about 62 percent of the assigned tasks listed in theGovernment’s Resolution 36a on e-Government have been completed.
The PM said the Government is urging relevantsides to press on with perfecting mechanisms and policies, including those oninvestment, tax incentives, renting IT products and services and creating a marketfor domestic IT products.
They should develop broadband infrastructure,boost digital connectivity and soon put into use common databases, he said.
They must also improve the country’s EGDIranking in terms of the three member indices on online services, telecommunicationinfrastructure and human capital. They need to work with UN agencies to updatethe latter on e-Government building in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will complete the reduction of administrative procedures in the third quarter of the year, with two-thirds out of 443 being removed.
Local enterprises are spending around 28.6 million working days valued at 14.3 trillion VND (636 million USD) a year to complete administrative procedures for special inspections on imported and exported goods.
The People’s Committee of the north-eastern province of Quang Ninh announced the Department and District Competitiveness Index (DDCI) 2017 at a conference in Ha Long city on January 24.
As many as 17 out of 19 ministries and ministry-level agencies have provided online public services at levels three and four, while 58 out of 63 cities and provinces have supplied 13,830 public services on the Internet.
