A press competition aiming to increase public engagement in eradicating tuberculosis (TB) in Vietnam has been launched in response to the upcoming World TB Day (March 24).

Hanoi (VNA) – A press competition aiming toincrease public engagement in eradicating tuberculosis (TB) in Vietnam has beenlaunched in response to the upcoming World TB Day (March 24).
With a deadline set for January 1, 2019, submissions can be in form of text orvideo. A text entry must be under 1,500 words, be accompanied by at least onehigh resolution photo, and containing five related articles in maximum. A videosubmission must not be longer than 10 minutes and have associated title,narrative or subtitle.
Vietnamese citizens and Vietnamese living and working inVietnam as well as foreigners living in Vietnam are eligible to participate.
Recommended themes include examples of early diagnosis,patients’ efforts in fighting the disease, TB treatment and caring experiences,and public initiatives that work.
Writings about good examples of medical workers and socialactivists in the fight against TB are also welcomed.
The competition’s award ceremony is slated for March 24 nextyear, with lists of winner published on website of the National Lung Hospitaland several popular online newspapers such as dantri.com.vn, vnexpress.net andyes8877.cc, along with the fanpages of the national anti-TB programme at //www.facebook.com/CTCLQG/ andof the contest at //bit.ly/anti-TB-contest-Vietnam.
Vietnam recorded about 130,000 people diagnosed with TByearly, of whom about 7,000 had both TB and HIV, over 5,000 had multidrug-resistant TB, and about 300 patients had extensively drug-resistant TB. -VNA
About 126,000 people have tuberculosis (TB) in Vietnam, but fewer than 106,000 have received treatment, while the others are undetected and sometimes unaware of their status, said Director of the Hanoi-based Central Pulmonology Hospital Nguyen Viet Nhung.
