Hai Phong (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang pinned the badge carrying the title ofHero of the People’s Armed Forces on the traditional flag of the border guardsof northern Hai Phong city during a local ceremony on June 23.
Speaking atthe event, President Quang hailed the Hai Phong border guards for successfullyfulfilling their mission of firmly safeguarding border, island and seaportsovereignty and security while ensuring the absolute safety of political,economic and cultural establishments as well as visiting Party and Stateleaders.
During thewar, the forces shot down 21 aircraft and arrested five US pilots, establisheda suicide squad to disarm torpedoes, contributing to defeating sabotage warwaged by the US.
He askedthem to fully grasp and effectively implement the Party and State’s resolutionsand directions on national defence-security, particularly the Resolutionadopted by the 12th National Party Congress, and the Resolution onnational defence strategy in the new context passed at the eighth plenum of the11th Party Central Committee’s Congress, and another on Vietnammarine strategy until 2020 by the fourth plenum of the 10th PartyCentral Committee’s Congress, and others.
They wererequired to advise local Party units and authorities to strengthen and combineall-people’s national defence and security postures while actively engaging in socio-economicand cultural activities.
The leadernoted that the forces must pay attention to effectively implementingresolutions on strengthening Party building and rectification adopted by thefourth plenum of the 11th and 12th National PartyCongresses, preventing and driving back degradation in political ideology,moral virtue and lifestyle as well as “self-evolution” and“self-transformation”.
At the sametime, they were urged to continue effectively implementing Decree No.5-CT/TW bythe Politburo (12th tenure) on “Studying and following lifestyle ofPresident Ho Chi Minh”.
On theoccasion, the President also presented the title to Lieut. Col Nguyen Huu Doai,former political officer of Trang Cat public security station, part of the HaiPhong city’s border guard forces.-VNA
