Hanoi (VNA) – State President To Lam on July 25 received National Security Advisor of India Ajit Doval, who represented the Indian Government to pay the last respect to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.

On behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Government, and people of India, Doval expressed his grief at the passing of General Secretary Trong and offered deep condolences to President Lam, other Party and State leaders, and people of Vietnam.

He affirmed that India always treasures General Secretary Trong’s precious support for and significant contributions to the development of bilateral relations.

The official voiced his belief that President Lam, together with other Vietnamese leaders, will continue leading Vietnam on the path of development and inheritance of General Secretary Trong’s legacy.

President Lam thanked the Indian Government and people, PM Narendra Modi, and the National Security Advisor for their special sentiments towards the deceased, and for standing by the side of the leaders and people of Vietnam during this moment of grief. He described this as a demonstration of the close-knit bonds between the two countries and the two peoples.

Vietnam and India always share strong mutual trust and friendship, which is a stepping stone for them to continue expanding cooperation in various fields, including defence - security, economy - trade, culture - tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, the host leader remarked.
