Hanoi (VNA) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo metwith Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on August 5 on the last stopof a three-nation trip to Southeast Asia.

In the meeting at the presidential palace,Pompeo called Indonesia a "strategic partner" of the US and saidWashington values the "growth of democracy" in the Southeast Asiannation.

On August 4, he held talks with IndonesianForeign Minister Retno Marsudi, who voiced concern that trade friction betweenthe US and China could affect "all countries including Indonesia."

Before setting foot in Indonesia, the USSecretary of State attended the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting andrelated meetings in Singapore, where he pledged to provide nearly 300 millionUSD in new security funding for Southeast Asia. –VNA
