PM urges Dutch university to step up ties with Vietnam

The Hague (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc hoped Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) of the Netherlandswill step up cooperation with its peers from Vietnam in agriculture,environment and water management in his visit to the educational institution onJuly 10.

The Prime Minister’s trip to the Dutch public university waspart of his ongoing visit to the Netherlands until July 11.

He expressed his support to the university’s plans forfuture cooperation with Vietnam, and highly spoke of the successful partnershipbetween the two sides in the past years in which about 200 Vietnamese engineersand doctoral degree holders graduated from the university.

He urged the university to help Vietnam train more personnel,particularly in organic farming since the country has been striving to developmass production in agriculture amidst many challenges facing both nations,including climate change.

The PM said he is delight at the Netherlands’ effort to helpVietnam in response to climate change, and looked forward to the enhanced partnershipbetween the WUR and universities from Vietnam in other fields, includingagriculture, environment and water management.

He suggested the university should partner with thosefrom Vietnam to establish training centres for hi-tech agriculture with focuson breeding and fruit and vegetable cultivation; and to assist Vietnam inlivestock production chain development, disease control, animal feedprocessing, and waste treatment.

The Prime Minister also visited RIKILT-Institute of FoodSafety at the WUR.

Based in Wageningen, Netherlands, the WUR consists ofWageningen University and the former agricultural research institutes of theDutch Ministry of Agriculture. The world-class university offers undergraduateand professional degrees, including doctorates, in the fields of hi-techagriculture, life sciences and environmental science. It has about 10,000students from over 100 countries.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
