PM orders southern localities to take actions in realising dual targets
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered authorities of Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding localities in the southern key economic region to take the initiative to realise the dual targets in a flexible method as COVID-19 situations remain complicated.

Hanoi (VNA) –Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered authorities of Ho Chi Minh City andsurrounding localities in the southern key economic region to take the initiativeto realise the dual targets in a flexible method as COVID-19 situations remaincomplicated.
He made the statementwhile presiding over a recent virtual meeting with leaders of HCM City and neighbouringprovinces of Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh,Long An, Tien Giang, regarding COVID-19 prevention and control, economicdevelopment and measures to ensure people’s lives.
Local authorities havekept a close watch on the situations and spared no efforts in taking action,thereby fulfilling the twin targets although the pandemic is yet to fullybrought under control, the PM said.
HCM City and sevenprovinces all achieved gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of over 5 percentin the first half of 2021, higher than that in the same period last year, andbudget collection surpassed the set targets in the period, heard the event.
The Government leaderordered that actions must be taken with considerations for thesituations, period and locations, in an endeavour to focus on economicdevelopment and curbing the spread of the pandemic.
He stated that peopleplay a central role while political institutions at grassroots level serve at afoundation for COVID-19 prevention and control and production in the currentcontext, adding that the political system needs to exert further efforts in thefight.
Relevant agencies wererequested to promptly review and address bottlenecks in production, especiallythose that emerge during outbreaks, as well as maintain political stability andensure safety for people in HCM City and other localities, so as to hold thenational high school graduation examination in a safe and effective manner and in linewith the regulations.
