Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc gave several strategic suggestions at the Vietnam Tourism Human Resources Forum 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City on April 12, as part of the city’s tourism festival.

HCM City (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc gaveseveral strategic suggestions at the Vietnam Tourism Human Resources Forum 2019in Ho Chi Minh City on April 12, as part of the city’s tourism festival.

The biennial event ran under the theme “Training Vietnam’shuman resources in tourism to develop it as a key economic sector”, attractingover 300 delegates from ministries, agencies, domestic and foreign tourism trainingestablishments, and travel agencies.

Speaking at the event, PM Phuc said training and careerdevelopment policies and incentives will be decisive for talent and skilledworkforce attraction, adding that improving the field’s business environment willbe also crucial for the effort.

He said the Party and State consider institutions, humanresources, and infrastructure as the top three pillars for strategicbreakthroughs.

According to him, the World Economic Forum’s Travel &Tourism Competitiveness Index put Vietnam at 67th globally in 2017, up eightplaces from 2015; and 37th in human resource field and the labour market, up 18spots.

The leader expressed his belief that with 100 millionVietnamese people at home and abroad, Vietnam’s workforce does not lack interms of quantity and quality.

He suggested that each firm devise a sound governance policyand attract skilled workers from other fields to the tourism industry.Universities and training establishments must update their curricula tointernational standards.

Discussions at the event focused on training to meetcorporate demand for tourism workforce, effective technological application intourism workforce training, and policy planning for tourism human resourcesdevelopment.

Vietnam is home to 346 tourism training establishments atall levels, 63 of which are in Ho Chi Minh City including 24 universities, 20colleges, and 19 vocational schools.–VNA
