The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) is directed to takemeasures against the spread of the viruses, including by spraying chemicals in poultrymarkets and farms.
The ministry is asked to keep a close watch on the situation to timely detect andtackle outbreaks, towards preventing the viruses from spreading to humans.
The ministries of Defence, and Finance will be responsible for dealingwith the cross-border illegal poultry trade, while theMinistry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with the Ministry of PublicSecurity and relevant agencies to enhance market management and quarantines, andstrictly handle poultry smuggling in the market.
The Ministry of Health and the MARD will work with international organisations tofollow the development of new diseases related to bird flu viruses, apply preventive measures and organisetreatment in cases of A/H7N9 infection.
Communicationagencies such as the Ministry of Information and Communications, the VietnamTelevision, the Vietnam News Agency and others are requested to intensifyinformation campaigns to raise public awareness of measures for stopping bird flu viruses from transmitting tohumans.
Chairmenof People’s Committees of provinces and cities are responsible for directingrelevant agencies and forces to handle cross-border illegalpoultry trade and poultry products with unknown origin, and swiftly detect outbreaks.
Attention will also be paid to ensuring food safety, especially in processingestablishments, and disseminating hygiene practices in poultry breeding andslaughtering activities.-VNA
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued an urgent notice requiring strong measures to prevent avian influenza viruses including H7N9 from entering Vietnam.
An urgent meeting was held in Hanoi on February 20 to discuss measures to prevent avian influenza viruses, especially A/H7N9, which are spreading in some neighbouring countries.
The northern province of Quang Ninh is intensifying measures to prevent A/H7N9 avian flu entering through border gates as it shares about 118km border line with China, which is tackling a new A/H7N9 outbreak.
The Department of Animal Health and Livestock Production of the Mekong Delta province of Long An has increased preventive measures against A/H7N9 and other virus strains entering its border gates with Cambodia, said Phan Ngoc Chau, head of the department.
