Dong Nai (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 24 asked the southern province of Dong Nai to maximise resources in order to promote its traditional growth engines, and create breakthroughs for new driving forces.

Speaking at a conference announcing the provincial master plan for 2021-2030 with a vision towards 2050 and promoting trade in Dong Nai, the government leader said the locality needs to enhance investment in human resources, and step up regional, national, and international connectivity.

He also highlighted breakthroughs in transport infrastructure, climate change response, health care, education, and social affairs; in high-tech industries in service of regional and global production-supply chains; and in information-technology application, and innovation across spheres.

The implementation of the master plan must match national, regional, and sectoral planning schemes, he said, urging the locality to push ahead with site clearance for projects, especially those on infrastructure, and keep changing its development mindset and vision.

Dong Nai should work to carry forward its position and role as an important trading centre of the southeastern region, he said, urging it to promote economic spearhead sectors, and transform industrial parks in a green, digital, and circular fashion.

The PM set out other tasks for the province, such as intensifying administrative reform, improving the business environment, and raising its Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI), and the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI), and other rankings.

The province should make thorough preparations in anticipation of investors, especially big and potential ones, and play a more active role in environmental protection and climate change response, he said, suggesting Dong Nai establish biodiversity corridors and pay more heed to protecting biosphere reserves.

The leader also called on businesses and investors to join hands in creating new momentum for Dong Nai to move ahead, give advice to state agencies in administrative reform, and perform its social responsibility.

Pointing to Dong Nai’s crucial role and position in the development of the country and the southeastern region in particular, Chinh asked the locality to optimise its advantages to make outstanding performance in the time ahead.

The provincial master plan envisioned a civilised, modern Dong Nai, with high growth, and the status of a centrally-run city by 2050.

It identifies major development breakthroughs, including those in infrastructure with Long Thanh International Airport, green industrial parks, and innovation centres as highlights. The Long Thanh airport urban area and the Dong Nai River corridor also serve as driving forces for the locality.

Dong Nai will also focus on attracting investments to the three major sectors of industry, services, and agro-forestry-fisheries.

♛ On this occasion, local leaders handed over investment decisions and licences, memoranda of understanding, and in-principle agreements to 14 projects worth about 6 billion USD, covering industrial park infrastructure, logistics, semiconductors, electronics, commercial services, urban areas, tourism, and social housing./.
