Phu Yen (VNA) – The central coastal province of Phu Yen will branchout high-tech shrimp cultivation models in a bid to realise its target of 100million USD in production value by 2025.
Theprovince will set aside 55 billion VND (2.4 million USD) to zone offcultivating area, upgrade infrastructure, produce breeding varieties, examine theenvironment and diseases as well as transfer technology and promote trade andinvestment.
Production will be reorganised to create a large-scale material productionarea. The province will link local shrimp suppliers with consumption markets.
By 2020, Phu Yen will work to reduce total water surface area for shrimpbreeding to 1,943 hectares from 2,028 hectares in 2016 but shoot up the volume ofshrimp production to 9,950 tonnes from 6,760 tonnes.
The province is planning to produce 6 billion juvenile shrimps and 18,000lobster-nurturing cages in an area of over 55 hectares.
Phu Yen’s shrimp farming area is mostly situated in Dong Hoa and Tuy Andistrict and Song Cau town. Last year, the province produced nearly 6,800tonnes of shrimp and 650 tonnes of lobster.-VNA
