Hanoi (VNA) – The Philippine police said on May 1 that 10 Indonesian sailors held hostage by the Abu Sa🧔yyaf insurgent group five weeks ago were freed.

According to Jolo island’s chief police Junpikar Sitin, the 10 Indonesian hostages were dropped off in front of residence of Sulu province’s Governor in Jolo. Last March, the Abu Sayyaf group kidnapped the 10 Indonesian sailors and demanded a ransom worth 1 million USD for their release. However, the Indonesian Government refused the demand. According to the Philippine authorities, the Abu Sayyaf group is still detaining 11 foreign hostages.-VNA
