Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation from the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) led by Deputy General Director Duong Manh Son accompanied Vice Chairman of the Commission for Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC) Nguyen Ngoc Canh during the official’s trips to Germany and the Netherlands from October 27-31.

In Germany, the delegation had a working session with Jan-Benjamin Spitzley, Senior Director of Siemens Energy. and some leaders of the German firm.

Spitzley briefed the Vietnamese delegation on Siemens’s energy transition policy and major energy business areas. He said that five major projects of Siemens in Vietnam are 750-MW Phu My 3 power plant, 1,500-MW Ca Mau 1 and 2 power plants, 750-MW Nhon Trach 2 power plant, and Hiep Phuoc power project.

For his part, Son noted that the Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), a member of Petrovietnam, has signed a cooperation agreement with Sembcorp Industries Limited for a project to export renewable energy from Vietnam to Singapore. He asked Siemens, the largest wind power manufacturer in the world, to consider the possibility to engage in transferring technology for the implementation of the project.

Leaders of Siemens said that the firm is considering moving its renewable energy plants from China to other countries. Therefore, this will be an opportunity for the two sides to consider the possibility of cooperation in the future.

At a meeting with leaders of AES Group of the US, which is headquartered in Amsterdam of the Netherlands, the two sides discussed the progress of the Son My LNG terminal project, of which PVGas contribute 61% of the total capital and 39% comes from AES.

They noted that the pre-feasibility of Son My 2 power plant has been submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for verification. Meanwhile, in July, the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan approved the Son My LNG terminal project. The investors are finalising the feasibility of the project to submit to authorised agencies in late 2023.

Mark Green, AES Executive Vice President for Global Green Hydrogen, highlighted the firm’s investment orientations in the fields of green and renewable energy.

Petrovietnam representatives said that the Prime Minister of Vietnam has approved a project to restructure the firm into an energy industry group by 2025, with a focus on developing green, new and renewable energy sources such as offshore wind power, hydrogen, and low-carbon fuels. Petrovietnam is seeking experienced partners in these fields, said the representatives.
