Permanent office of UXO steering committee set up

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, head of the National Steering Committee on the Settlement of Post-war Unexploded Ordnance and Toxic Chemical Consequences, has signed a decision to establish the committee’s permanent office.

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, head of the NationalSteering Committee on the Settlement of Post-war Unexploded Ordnance and ToxicChemical Consequences, has signed a decision to establish the committee’s permanentoffice.

Under the decision, Director of the officeis the Deputy Minister of National Defence who is also permanent member of thesteering committee.

Its deputy directors include DeputyMinisters of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Natural Resources andEnvironment; and Planning and Investment; a Deputy Chief of the General Staffof the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), and a Deputy Director of the GeneralDepartment of Politics of the VPA.

The office is located in the DefenceMinistry’s Department of Military Science.

It is responsible for proposingorientations and solutions to important issues, and measures to mobilisedomestic and foreign resources to quickly tackle post-war bomb and mine andtoxic chemical consequences in Vietnam.

Its duties are also to make long-term,medium-term and yearly plans to implement national action plans and programmeson the settlement of consequences; coordinate the work between ministries,ministry-level and offices, and local People’s Committees; and make regular andunscheduled reports on the work.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
