Pedestrian walkway opens in busy HCM City street

Thousands of local residents in the southern hub of Vietnam have enthusiastically visited the first pedestrian promenade on Nguyen Hue street, which became operational on April 29.
Thousands of local residents in the southern hub of Vietnam haveenthusiastically visited the first pedestrian promenade on Nguyen Huestreet, which became operational on April 29.

Nguyen Thanh Chung,Director of the municipal Department of Transport, said that theproject to upgrade the street, which began in September 2014, has beencompleted at a total cost of 470 billion VND (21.9 million USD), withwater fountains and light systems installed.

He added thatcompletion of other works, such as a free wifi system and informationbooth on the street, is underway. He highlighted that in the next 45days, about 20 electric trams will be introduced to pick up residentsaround 23/9 park and Thao Cam Vien, transporting them to Nguyen HueStreet.

Some vicinity streets, such as Le Loi, Ham Nghi and Dong Khoi, will also be converted into pedestrian promenades, Chung noted.-VNA
