Berlin (VNA) – “C༺hina must respect PCA’s ruling”, “Peace and Security for East Sea” were among the banners held aloft by Overseas Vietnamese in Germany during a meeting in front of the Chinese Embassy in Berlin on July 23.

The event drew the participation of hundreds of Vietnamese expats, representatives from Vietnamese organisations in Germany as well as Philippine and other international friends.
Le Hong Cuong-head of the organising board, briefed the participants about the main contents and historical significance of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA)’s ruling on the Philippines’ lawsuit against China’s claims in the East Sea. He noted that the ruling said that China’s claims for “historic rights” over waters within the so-called nine-dash line in the East Sea run counter to the 1982 United Nation Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) and China has no historic title over the waters in the East Sea.
Cuong also informed the audiences about the response of international community and public opinion in Germany to the ruling. He read a statement of the community of Vietnamese, Philippine and international friends in Germany, which called on the world and international organisations to urge China to obey international law and the PCA’s verdict on July 12.-VNA
