Party leader tasks trade unions to raise operational efficiency

Hanoi (VNA) –General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central CommitteeNguyen Phu Trong on September 25 urged all-level trade unions to renew andimprove the efficiency of their operation in the new situation.

The Party leader made the requestwhile addressing a session of the 12th Congress of the VietnamGeneral Confederation of Labour (VGCL) for the 2018-2023 tenure now underway inHanoi.

The Vietnamese Party, State andpeople always give special attention and care to the working class, he said,highlighting their participation in different economic sectors and theirpioneering role in the national industrialisation and modernisation.

Therefore, developing a strongworking class in the context of intensified industrialisation and modernisationis an important and urgent task of the Party, State, the entire politicalsystem, each citizen and the whole society, especially the trade unions, Partyleader Trong said.

He asked trade unions at alllevels to be attentive to improving political awareness and will of labourers,and educate them about patriotism which, he said, should be transformed intoefforts to improve knowledge and skills in order to meet requirements of the FourthIndustrial Revolution.

The leader also urged trade unionsto better perform their role of representing and protecting legitimate rightsand interests of their members and employees, and pay more attention topolicies on salary, social and health insurance, occupational safety andhygiene, and health of labourers.

Besides, trade unions need toraise the quality of negotiations, signing and implementation of collectivelabour agreements, while intensifying welfare programmes for trade unionmembers, focusing on employment, housing, kindergartens, electricity and watersupply, and health care.

They were also requested tocoordinate with agencies, organisations and businesses to promptly address withconcerns of workers.

Party General Secretary Tronghighlighted the role of trade unions in building the Party and administration,fighting corruption, wastefulness and other negative deeds, and preventing thedegradation of political ideology, morality and lifestyle, “self-evolution” and “self-transformation”.

He assignedall-level Party Committees, organisations, authorities, Vietnam FatherlandFront chapters and political and social organisations to focus oninstitutionalising and materialising the Party’s policies and guidelines towardsthe working class.-VNA
