Part of Hanoi Highway in HCM City named after General Vo Nguyen Giap

A 7.79km section of Hanoi Highway in Ho Chi Minh City, from Saigon Bridge to the Thu Duc intersection, will be renamed Vo Nguyen Giap Street.

HCM City (VNA) – A 7.79km section of HanoiHighway in Ho Chi Minh City, from Saigon Bridge to the Thu Duc intersection,will be renamed Vo Nguyen Giap Street.

The 10th-tenure municipal People’sCouncil voted on the renaming during its 10th session on July 12, recognising great contributions by General Vo Nguyen Giap tonational liberation and reunification.  
After the renaming, the Hanoi Highway – Vo NguyenGiap – Dien Bien Phu route will be formed, creating a connection between historicalevents and figures – the Dien Bien Phu campaign and the legendary general,according to the municipal People’s Committee.

The council has asked the media to popularise therenaming, and localities to review the list of businesses, organisations andhouseholds in Thu Duc city and eight wards affected by the work, and supportthem in administrative changes.  

Vo Nguyen Giap, the first four-star general and theformer commander-in-chief of the Vietnamese army, passed away on October 4,2013, in Hanoi, at the age of 102.

He started his career as a history teacher beforejoining the army to become a general who led the Vietnamese army todefeat French and US forces./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
