Over 1,600 triathletes race in Techcombank Ironman 70.3

More than 1,600 athletes from 56 countries, including 620 Vietnamese, took part in the triathlon race Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 in the central city of Da Nang on May 13.

Da Nang (VNA) – Morethan 1,600 athletes from 56 countries, including 620 Vietnamese, took part inthe triathlon race Techcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 in the central city ofDa Nang on May 13.

The fourth edition of TechcombankIronman 70.3 Vietnam, with the message of “Be greater together,” started with a1.9km swim from Hyatt Regency Resort that was followed by a 90-km track bikerace along the coastal line, and ended with 21km of running.

It isone of the few sports where professional and amateur athletes compete togetheras they all strive to be greater in their goal to reach the finish line.

This is an international sporting event organized by Sunrise EventsVietnam with great support from the Da Nang city Department of Culture andSports.

From a one-day event that was held in 2015, three years later, theTechcombank Ironman 70.3 Vietnam 2018 has been expanded into a multi-day event,with many categories and activities for families to join.

Nguyen Le Quoc Anh, CEO of Techcombank, said the Techcombank Ironman70.3 Vietnam 2018 has contributed to developing sports movement and promotingtourism of Da Nang and Vietnam to the world.

Huynh Van Hung, Director of the municipal Department of Culture andSports, said the municipal People’s Committee has decided to turn TechcombankIronman 70.3 Vietnam into a quinquennial event of the city.

Earlier, on the sidelines of the event, there were the third edition ofIronkids, a playground for kids aged from 6-14 to show their swimming andrunning skills,  the second edition ofthe Sunrise Sprint, which is designed for new triathletes, and the thirdedition of the Newborns Run Out which raises fund for Newborns Vietnam, a charityorganisation committed to reducing infant mortality in Vietnam.-VNA
