Quang Nam (VNA)
– More than 1,000artifacts uncovered during the excavation and restoration of towers in theworld heritage site of My Son sanctuary in the central province of Quang Namhave been digitalised thanks to the assistance of experts from Italy and India.

Italian experts have worked with techniciansfrom the management board of the heritage site to digitalise the artifacts, including statues, bricks and other objects used for the construction oftowers.
Head of the management board Phan Ho said thedigitalisation is one of the notable outcomes of international cooperationefforts to protect the world heritage site.

Apart from the assistance of the Italian Government, experts from India have been providing support to upgrade the towers, duringwhich they discovered an underground road and many valuable objects, he added.

All newly-found artifacts will be digitalised tomake it easier for preservation and restoration, he said.

My Son Sanctuary is located in a hilly landscapein Duy Phu commune, Duy Xuyen district, about 70km southwest of central Da Nangcity and 40km from Hoi An city – another UNESCO heritage site in Quang Nam.

It comprises eight groups of 71 monuments builtthroughout the 7th -13th centuries. The first construction of My Son datedback to the 4th century under the reign of Bhadravarman for the worship of GodShiva-Bhadresvara. But later on, the temple was destroyed.

At the beginning of the 7th century, KingSambhuvarman had it rebuilt and rebaptised Sambhu-Bhadresvara. Each new monarchcame to My Son after his accession to the throne for the ceremony ofpurification and to present offerings and erect new monuments, which explainswhy My Son is the only place where Cham art flourished without interruptionfrom the 7th to 13th century.-VNA

Taking a journey to the Cham Museum — the modest building in Phan Rang –Thap Cham, Indian writer Ankita Mahabir said that the museum might not boast size but it brims with pride for the local community, featuring carefully preserved sandstone sculptures, portraits, and rare artifacts.

For years, the Vietnamese community in many countries rarely had the chance to experience Vietnam’s traditional arts and culture actitivies organized by the Vietnam government, except the annual event “Vietnam Day Abroad” that has been organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010.
