HCM City (VNA) – A “One Commune – One Product” global network (iOCOP)made debut in Ho Chi Minh City on April 17 within the framework of theInternational OCOP Connectivity Forum.

The network, initiatedby Vietnam, includes 15 members, namely Laos, Kenya, Australia, Japan,Columbia, Thailand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Senegal, Mexico, Chile,Madagascar, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Deputy Prime MinisterVuong Dinh Hue stated that the OCOP movement has developed in differentcountries over the past 40 years, but there is no organisation or networklinking cooperation in this field.

Vietnam proposesmember countries take turn to organise iOCOP connectivity forum andinternational fair to share experience and promote iOCOP products in a largerscale, he added.

Le Ba Ngoc, deputychairman of the Vietnam Handicraft Exporters Association, said that the networklooks to connect nations, organisations and individuals over the globe toeffectively carry out the OCOP movement, thus contributing to sustainabledevelopment in rural areas.

The iOCOP network willhelp localities achieve sustainable economic growth through the improvement ofvalue chains of their typical products, and use their resources to developproducts that can be competitive in both domestic and foreign markets.

It will also helpimprove the capacity of State management officials and partners participatingin iOCOP value chains, and organise market development and promotion programmesand fairs at the national and international levels, Ngoc stated.-VNA
