Oil portrait of coach Park Hang-seo to be auctioned

Hanoi(VNA) – The oil painting “My teacher” which portrays head coach of theVietnamese national football team Park Hang-seo will be auctioned at Chon’sAuction House in downtown Hanoi on December 30.

The 73cm by 92cmartwork by painter Tran The Vinh recreates the Korean coach putting his handover his heart during the singing of the Vietnamese national anthem before a match.

The painting has astarting price of 117 million VND (5,000 USD).

According toDirector of Chon’s Auction House Nguyen Xuan Cuong, the money raised from theauction will be donated to charity. Part of it will be used to support youngpainters.

The artwork willbe on display at the auction house from December 23.

Park Hang-seo fromthe Republic of Korea, 59, was hired to coach the men’s national, U23 andOlympic football teams last October on a two-year contract.

Park played for his country before starting a professionalcoaching career. He was the top assistant of Guus Hiddink during the Republicof Korea’s run to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2002.

In Vietnam, Parkand his players won hearts of millions of local football fans as they grabbedthe AFC U23 championship silver in January, reached the semi-final of the AsianGames in the summer and won the country’s first AFF Suzuki Cup in 10 years inDecember.

Last week, he wasnamed among 12 winners of the Person of the Year Award voted by the JournalistFederation of Korea, a prize given to recognize the figures that have proudlyrepresented the Republic of Korea throughout the year. –VNA
