Hanoi (VNA) – The broadcasting of analogue terrestrial television will beceased in several northern and southern localities before July 1.
All televisionprogrammes will be broadcast digitally using the Digital Video Broadcasting –Second Generation Terrestrial (DVB-T2) standard, Minister of Information andCommunication Truong Minh Tuan said at a meeting in Hanoi on February 14.
The targetlocalities include Quang Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Bac Giang, Thai Binh,Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Dong Nai, Long An, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Binh Thuan, TienGiang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, and An Giang.
Director ofthe Authority of Radio Frequency Management Doan Quang Hoan said the halt ofanalogue terrestrial television is encountering some difficulties.
Theimplementation of the digitalisation project in major cities of Hanoi, HaiPhong, Ho Chi Minh City, and Can Tho was eight months slower than scheduled, henoted.
He suggestedsupporting the coverage of terrestrial digital television in centrally-runcities and neighbouring provinces, and combining it with satellite one inremote areas.
MinisterTruong Minh Tuan asked the management board of the TV digitalisation programmeto coordinate with local authorities to support poor and near-poor householdsin the field.
The PrimeMinister issued Decision 2451-QD-TTg in 2011 approving the scheme on the digitalisationof the transmission of terrestrial television broadcasting by 2020 with a totalcost of 1.71 trillion VND (75.1 million USD).
DaNang was thefirst locality in Vietnamand the ASEAN region to complete the digitalisation of terrestrial televisionbroadcasts.
The city replaced analogue with digital terrestrial TV from November 1, 2015.
