Hanoi (VNA)🅠 – The National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) has reported fewer serious traffic accidents over the first three days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2016.

The number of traffic accidents, fatalities, and injuries in the period significantly declined compared to that of the 2015 Tet holiday.
Specifically, from February 7-9, as many as 104 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 64 people and injuring 98 others. The figures represented a year-on-year decline of 78 cases, 43 fatalities, and 59 injuries. The NTSC has asked relevant agencies, departments, sectors and localities to push ahead with the implementation of the Prime Minister’s official telegram 2313/CĐ-TTg issued in December 2015 on ensuring traffic safety and order for people during the festive events in 2016.
Police forces must step up inspection and strict punishment on any violations such as exceeding speed limits, infringing alcohol restrictions, and driving without wearing a helmet. Increasing awareness campaigns is essential to that end. The NTSC suggested traffic police, particularly in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where large crowds of people are anticipated in the last days of Tet, arrange sufficient forces to ensure traffic order and safety.-VNA
