New action plan to enhance Vietnam’s global integration

Specifically, measureswill be taken to ensure rapid and sustainable development of the economyafter the country joined the World Trade Organisation, with new tasksto meet requirements of the national development to 2020.

A strategy on international intergration by 2020 will be built andimplemented, focusing on finance and currency integration.

At the same time, more efforts will be made to improve the investmentenvironment to attract more foreign investors, while ensuring economicsecurity as well as socio-economic efficiency.

Issued on April 10 last year, the Party’s Resolution No. 22-NQ/TWdefined staying proactive and positive in international integration as akey strategic direction to the success of the national construction anddefence.

In terms of international integration inpolitics, the plan pointed out that it is necessary to step up anddeepen relations with partners, especially those playing the role ofstrategic importance to the national development and security.

The plan underscored the need for active and positive engagement andthe promotion of Vietnam ’s role in multilateral institutions,especially the ASEAN, the Asian Regional Forum and the East AsianSummit.

Vietnam will enhance its effectiveparticipation in the implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct ofParties in the East Sea as well as the swift formation of a Code ofConduct, it said.

The country will continue playingthe role of a responsible and constructive member at important forumssuch as the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation andthe Asia-Europe Meeting, as well as the Non-Alignment Movement, theSouth-South Cooperation, the Francophonie and subregional partnershipmechanisms.

On international cooperation in defenceand security, the plan stated that a strategy to 2020 in the field willbe designed to better utilise external sources as well as the nationalstatus in building a modern army, enhancing the country’s defencestrength.

Regarding international integration insocio-culture, education-training, science-technology and other areas,the plan specified that it is crucial to add international integrationcontent to strategies, programmes and projects in the fields, aiming tomake full use of international partnership and support.

The plan also mentioned the need to increase Vietnam’s involvement ininstitutions in solving environmental matters, while proposing moreinitiatives to the joint efforts in coping with climate change,protecting the environment, forests, water resources, fauna and flora,and preventing natural disasters.-VNA
