Nearly 2,000 officials, cadres, youths and public security officers joined the annual 13th Red Sunday – a voluntary blood donation drive, in the central province of Thanh Hoa on December 13.

 Thanh Hoa (VNA) – Nearly 2,000 officia𝓡ls, cadres,youths and public security officers joined the annual 13th Red Sunday –a voluntary blood donation drive, in the central province of Thanh Hoa onDecember 13.

The activity was jointly held by the National Traffic SafetyCommittee, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and TienPhong (Vanguard) newspaper in cities and provinces nationwide. In the near future, the provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union(HCYU) will urge officials, youth union members and students to spread theeffort and play a vanguard role in blood donation movements. On the occasion, the provincial HCYU presented certificates ofmerit to nine individuals and seven collectives in honour of their contributionsto the voluntary blood donation movement./.

In 2024, Vietnam achieved 99% coverage for the first dose of the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine, up from 80% in 2023. Immunisation coverage in the country has not only rebounded to the high levels seen before the COVID-19 pandemic but has now surpassed the rates recorded in 2019.

Health sector calls on people to donate blood

During the peak months of July and August 2025, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) needs at least 90,000 units of blood to supply 180 hospitals in the northern region. However, despite continuous efforts, the reserve blood is still short of 30,000 units.
