Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam Telecommunications Authority said thatapproximately 498,000 mobile phone subscribers had verified their information,leaving nearly 1.17 million SIM cards two-way locked.
When the SIM cards are two-way locked, users are not able to verify theirinformation through service providers’ applications and websites, but insteadhave to bring their personal identification documents to the carriers’transaction points to complete the process.
The action follows a plan of the Ministry of Information and Communications tomanage subscriptions and eradicate unverified SIM cards, spam calls andmessages, while preventing risks to mobile phone users.
Subscribers with unverified information will have their mobile phone numberswithdrawn on May 15./.
Nearly 14 million spam messages are frustrating phone users across the country every day despite efforts by information and telecommunication authorities to combat them.
The number of mobile phone subscriptions nationwide stood at about 127 million at the end of 2017, down 2.1 percent year-on-year. The decrease came as telecom providers withdrew unregistered SIM cards as directed by the Ministry of Information and Communications.
