Hanoi (VNA) – PrimeMinister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national teleconference on September 12 tolook into fire prevention and control and the five-year implementation of aGovernment decree on rescue and the firefighting force.

PM Chinh pointed out the complicated situationof fires, explosions, incidents, and accidents in the recent past, especially firesin residential areas, high-rises, industrial parks, markets, trade centres,production and business establishments, and karaoke parlours.

He noted some recent deadly fires and also took this occasion to offer condolences to the bereaved families.

He stressed those serious cases indicatethat the current situation is urgent and requires new tasks in incident,accident, and fire prevention and response to be performed to ensure property andlife safety.

People’s health and life are the firstand foremost priority, the Government leader emphasised.

The PM went on the say that fireprevention and control and rescue have become even more important at present sincesocio-economic development, industrialisation, and urbanisation are takingplace strongly; infrastructure facilities, housing, and high-rises increasing;production and business activities flourishing; and demand for energy andchemicals growing, posing latent risks of fires, explosions, incidents, andaccidents.

Meanwhile, people’s awareness andresponse skills are still limited, and there remain shortcomings in lawenforcement and management activities by State agencies.

He demanded officials analyse outstandingproblems, shortcomings, and difficulties while clarifying causes and lessons toimprove performance in this regard./.
