Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) –༒ The National Taekwondo Championship 2021 kicked off in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on December 16, with the participation of 250 martial artists from 25 provinces and cities, and sectors.
Director of the Thua Thien-Hue Department of Culture and Sports Phan Thanh Hai said the tournament opened up a chance for competitors to sharpen their skills and helped to assess training of athletes from localities after a social distancing period triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It also aims to select outstanding martial artists who will join training sessions ahead of regional and international tourneys, notably the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) hosted by Vietnam next year.
Stringent COVID-19 preventive measures have been in place to ensure safety for the participants, who are required to be fully vaccinated against and tested negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours.
The tournament will run until December 20./.
