Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hasapproved a national target programme on education for ethnic minority,mountainous and disadvantaged areas across the country between 2016 and 2020.
The programme aims to provide financial support for theconstruction, expansion and renovation of boarding schools for ethnic minoritystudents with total investment of more than 401.7 trillion VND (17.67 billionUSD).
The investment can be increased but should not exceed 1.1trillion VND (48.4 million USD).
It will also offer 4 trillion VND (176 million USD) infunds to repair, upgrade, expand and provide necessary facilities for 1,070schools, including semi-boarding high schools for ethnic minority students aswell as elementary and secondary schools with day boarders, in extremelydifficult areas.
These schools will get support to purchase basic teachingaids, classroom desks and chairs, equipment for catering services and residentialhouses for students.-
Part of the sum will be used to purchase utensils andequipment for 1,045 canteens, kitchens and 1,045 dormitories at the targetedschools.-VNA
Self-managed councils of students and children’s clubs have been formed in ten schools in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai from 2015-2018, helping promote children’s participation in improving the learning environment quality.
