National population database to be completed next year

The national population database will be completed by April next year to improve State management of citizens, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

Hanoi (VNA) -  The national population database will becompleted by April next year to improve State management of citizens, accordingto the Ministry of Public Security.

Accordingto the ministry’s report delivered at a meeting on March 12 to review theproject, 59 out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide have finished collectinginformation from about 80 million people.

Theministry has connected the ID card database with the national populationsystem.

A national centre for population and IDnumbers will be set up in December this year.

Ministerof Public Security To Lam asked police departments at all levels to completelegal procedures to put into operation the system, noting that while buildingthe database, units must ensure progress and follow the law.

He also ordered public security ministryagencies to share data with other ministries and sectors while ensuringinformation security.

Theproject to build the national population database with a total investment ofmore than 3.3 trillion VND (150 million USD) was approved by Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc in 2015.

TheMinistry of Public Security is responsible for building the database to store,standardise, digitise and manage the basic information of all Vietnamesecitizens.

Theplan includes building technical infrastructure, leasing transmissioninfrastructure, and building application software systems.

Theproject will form the basic content of the national scheme to simplifyadministrative procedures, citizenship documents and databases related topopulation management.

Itwill also serve to disseminate laws and policies concerning populationmanagement.

Lastyear, Vietnam conducted a National Population and Housing Census.

Theresults showed Vietnam’s population had exceeded 96.2 million people, making itthe third most populous country in Southeast Asia after Indonesia and thePhilippines, and the 15th most populous country in the world.

Thepopulation census information will be integrated into the national database./.
