Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recently signed a decisionon the establishment of a national committee tasked with making preparationsfor Vietnam to shoulder the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020.

The NationalASEAN 2020 Committee, headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister PhamBinh Minh, includes 29 members. They are assigned to help the PM direct,supervise, coordinate, and guide the ministries, offices and localities to workin the fields related to the preparations for and implementation of the role.

Thecommittee is made up of five subcommittees in charge of the contents, protocolissues, communications and culture, materials and logistics, and security andhealth care, along with the National ASEAN 2020 Secretariat.

The contentssubcommittee must building plans, direct, coordinate and organize theimplementation of all the work related to the contents in service of Vietnam’sASEAN Chairmanship in the tenure; while the protocol issues subcommittee takescharge of all the work in the field in organizing major meetings and eventhosted by Vietnam in 2020.

Meanwhile, thematerials and logistics subcommittee is assigned to build plans, direct,coordinate and organize the implementation of all the work related to material andlogistics in service of the meetings and events during Vietnam’s tenure; andthe communications and culture subcommittee is tasked with building plans,organizing, directing the reporting and popularizing work. As for the securityand health care subcommittee, it must do all the work needed to ensure securityand health care.

For itspart, the National ASEAN 2020 Secretariat will serve as the permanent body tohelp the National ASEAN 2020 Committee manage all the work related to Vietnam’sshouldering of the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2020.
