National Assembly to open seventh session on May 20

The seventh session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) is scheduled to take place from May 20 to June 13, according to NA Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc.

Hanoi (VNA) – The seventh session of the 14thNational Assembly (NA) is scheduled to take place from May 20 to June 13,according to NA Secretary General Nguyen Hanh Phuc.

At the ongoing 33rd meeting of the NA StandingCommittee on April 16, he said the agenda of the approaching session is set toinclude four more draft laws. 

They consist of a draft law amending andsupplementing some articles of the Law on the Organisation of the Governmentand the Law on the Organisation of Local Administration, a draft law amendingand supplementing some articles of the Law on Cadres and Civil Servants and theLaw on Public Employees, a draft law amending and supplementing some articles ofthe Law on State Audit, and another amending and supplementing some articles ofthe Law on Insurance Business and the Law on Intellectual Property.

Meanwhile, three other drafts were proposed tobe excluded from the agenda, namely the draft revised Law on MedicalExamination and Treatment, the draft law amending and supplementing somearticles of the Land Law, and the one amending and supplementing some articlesof the Law on Investment and the Law on Enterprises.

The proposed withdrawal aims to give relevantagencies more time to perfect the drafts, Phuc said.

Regarding question-and-answer (Q&A)activities, NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said that at the parliament’slast session in late 2018, the questions raised covered all fields and allministers had to field deputies’ queries. However, she said, this was notreally necessary.

She proposed that Q&A activities be carriedout in the previous manner, which meant suggesting topics for deputies andministers to focus on.

At the meeting, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi KimNgan requested preparations for the biannual session to be continued, notingthat parliamentary agencies need to closely coordinate with the Government inthe work. –VNA
