Hanoi (VNA) – Members of the National Assembly(NA) Standing Committee on September 12 reviewed the prevention and control oflaw violations, criminals and corruption in 2019.

During the working day, part of the committee’s 37th ongoing session, they commented on reports by the Chief Judge of the SupremePeople’s Court, head of the Supreme People’s Procuracy and the Government onthe prevention and control of criminals and corruption in 2019.

According to Minister of Public Security To Lam, the rate ofsuccess in investigation into criminal cases reached 84.2 percent, surpassingthe target assigned by the NA.

Meanwhile, criminals related to “black credit” have beensuppressed, while serious crimes have been reduced.

The handling of major economic and corruption cases havebeen sped up, while more attention has been paid to the reclamation ofcorrupted assets, and more smuggling and fake commodity production cases havebeen dealt with, Lam said.

He reported that competent agencies have detected 20,247drug-related cases involving 31,464 persons, with more than 1 tonne of heroin,nearly 6 tonnes of meth, over 600kg of opium, 760kg of marijuana seized.

The minister said that the outcomesin criminal prevention and control have contributed to ensuring politicalstability, protecting the national security, order, social safety as well ascompleting socio-economic development and external relations of the country.

However, he said thatviolations and criminals related to corruption and economy have remainedcomplicated, with the increasing use of IT and hi-tech devices. At the sametime, smuggling, trade fraud and the trafficking of fake and banned commoditieshave become more serious. Petty corruption in public administrative services hasstill caused anger among people and enterprises, along with violations in manyareas such as finance, banking, tax, customs, investment, land use, trade,health care, education, culture, sports and tourism.

Minister Lam underlined thatin 2020, the sector will focus more on preventing criminals with the goal ofreducing the number of criminals compared to that of 2019, while integratingpreventive measures, strengthening communications and popularisation of law,raising public awareness of reporting criminals.

Operational efficiency of massorganisations will also be enhanced in the work.

Next year, the publicsecurity sector will continue strengthen the handling of criminals, especiallythose related to “black credit”, human trafficking and sexual abuse againstchildren, corruption, and environment.

Progress of investigationinto corruption and economic cases will also be sped up.

Comprehensive measures willbe applied to improve the quality of investigation and handling of criminals,he added./.
