Prague (VNA) - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan had a meeting in Prague on April 12 (local time) with Czech President Milos Zeman, ​hihglighting the two countries' time-honour friendhip and cooperation.

Vietnamattaches importance to developing relations with traditional friends, with theCzech Republic considered a priority partner, Ngan ​said.

​She stressed the two countries haveenjoyed time-honoured friendship and cooperation nurtured by many generationsof their leaders and people over the past 67 years.

Vietnam remembers the CzechRepublic’s support for its past struggle for national liberation as well as thecurrent nation building and development, she affirmed, thanking the country forrecognising Vietnamese-Czech people as an ethnic minority group.

In past years, the two sides haveenjoyed progress in bilateral relations in polictics, diplomacy, trade,investment, defence, science and technology, while cooperating at regional andinternational forums as the United Nations and Asia–Europe Meeting.

Vietnam is willing to help the CzechRepublic boost collaboration with ASEAN and its member states, Ngan said,adding that it can also supply human resources for the Czech Republic as theEuropean country lacks labourers.

Vietnam’s top lawmaker told the hostthat during her visit, she met with President of the Senate of the CzechParliament Milan Stech and Chairman of the Czech Parliament’s Chamber ofDeputies (lower house) Jan Hamacek to discuss measures to boost bilateralparliamentary cooperation.

She asked for continued support fromthe Czech President to develop the parliamentary relationship, for theinterests of the two countries’ people and for peace, development and prosperityin the region and the world.

President Milos Zeman expressed hisdelight at the expansion of investment in Vietnam by Czech and Vietnamese-Czechbusinesses.

He said that a number of enterpriseswill accompany him during his upcoming State visit to Vietnam. He hoped the twocountries will sign many economic contracts to improve the bilateral relations.

He asked for Vietnam’s to consider porvidinga short-term visa waiver for Czech citizens.-VNA
