Myanmar tightens security ahead of ASEAN summit

Myanmar has coordinated with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to tighten security at the Yangon International Airport ahead of the 24th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw.

Interpol has sent officers from the Republic of Korea, Canada, andSlovenia to Myanmar to help in screening for suspects, as part of thecounter-terrorism measures.

During a Myanmar visit in January2013, Interpol Secretary General Ronald K Noble, pledged to enhancesecurity cooperation with Myanmar law enforcement authorities byconnecting airports and border crossings in the country to Interpol’spassport screening system.

The ASEAN summit will take place at the Myanmar International Convention Centre on May 10-11.-VNA
