Myanmar detains 200 foreigners for online gambling, fraud
The Myanmar government is working with the international community to identify and crack down on crimes, including illegal online gambling and online fraud.

Hanoi (VNA) - Myanmar authorities have recently detained 200 foreign nationals who committed onl🌄ine gambling and online fraud in Myawady-Shwe Kokko, Mae Htaw Tha Lay and KK Park areas.
The government is working with the international community to identify and crack down on crimes, including illegal online gambling and online fraud.
The necessary personal information and records of the detained foreign nationals are being collected by departmental teams to ensure their immediate repatriation to their respective countries.
From January 30 to February 28, a total of 3,125 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally were identified and detained, of whom, 757 were systematically transferred to their respective countries via Thailand by legal procedures./.
A total of some 7,000 foreign nationals have been rescued from call-centre scam gangs in Myanmar where they had been forced to work since last month, according to Thai security sources.
The Myanmar authorities on February 18 detained 273 foreign nationals from scam compounds along the border with Thailand as part of a crackdown on illegal online activities.
An estimated 220,000 people were estimated to have been tricked into working for romance-investment schemes, crypto fraud, money laundering and illegal gambling in Myanmar and Cambodia in 2023.
