Hanoi (VNA) 🍰- The Thanh Hoa Elderly Association and a delegation of senior citizens from Myanmar on October 24 visited Yen Dinh district’s Ly Nhan village to learn about the local model of an intergenerational self-help club (ISHC).
Project VIE071 on Reducing Income and Health-Related Vulnerabilities of Older Persons in Vietnam is funded by the Japanese government through the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF), administered by the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam. Its goal is to reduce the elderly’s income and health vulnerability by increasing their participation in income-generating activities and using community-based health and social care services.
Established in October 2021 under Project VIE071, the Ly Nhan ISHC currently has 60 members. The members have access to advanced sci-tech knowledge to apply to their production operations, gain financial support for income generation, participate in cultural and sport activities, and receive regular healthcare from volunteers. From the total funding of 154 million VND (6,268 USD), the club has provided support to 33 disadvantaged members to invest in their production, helping their lives improve significantly.
At the visit, the delegates observed the club’s normal operations and regular monthly activities, and met and exchanged experiences with its leaders and representatives from the provincial Elderly Association and other local stakeholders.
On this occasion, the association presented gifts to Nguyen Thi Tien, a club member, and visited the income-generating loan model of Nguyen Thi Hai's family./.
