Phnom Penh (VNA)⭕ – Entering a new phase of development with deeper international integration, driven by proactive and flexible foreign policy, Vietnam has achieved remarkable progress that Cambodian analysts describe as “unexpected stories” of integration while also pointing to the challenges faced by developing nations like Vietnam amid emerging global issues.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency in Phnom Penh on the occasion of Vietnam’s 80th National Day (September 2, 1945–2025), Dr. Eng Kok Thay, Secretary of State of the Office of the Cabinet of the Royal Cambodian Government, said Vietnam’s international integration and constructive contributions to the global community are widely recognised as impressive successes that have also surprised the world. He stressed that Vietnam’s achievements stem from an approach centred on progress and development, which has enabled the international community to acknowledge its role and values while creating opportunities for the country to share experiences in addressing common challenges. According to him, integration has helped Vietnam access new markets, adopt advanced technologies, and participate in security frameworks, while also exposing it to geopolitical complexities in Southeast Asia, Asia, and beyond. Against the backdrop of a shifting global order, he underscored the need for Vietnam to adopt a sustainable strategy to ensure stability and growth while tackling new challenges such as cybersecurity, non-traditional security, and technological competition. Uch Leang, Acting Director of the Department of Asian, African, and Middle East Studies at the International Relations Institute of Cambodia under the Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC), highlighted that after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), Vietnam is entering an era of prosperity. To achieve its goals, he said, the country must further leverage multilateral diplomacy to maximise resources and opportunities from the evolving global environment in service of national construction, development, and defence under its socialist orientation. Leang, who also serves as President of the Cambodian Alumni in Vietnam Association (CAVA), noted that effective multilateral diplomacy requires close coordination with powerful partners, particularly major powers, to strengthen Vietnam’s role at regional and international forums. This, he affirmed, will generate momentum for Vietnam’s new phase of prosperity. He expressed his confidence that with the Communist Party of Vietnam’s policy of multilateral diplomacy and flexible foreign affairs, together with the achievements of 40 years of Doi Moi and 80 years of independence, Vietnam has established a solid foundation for future growth. He emphasised that the country is now striving to become a high-income nation by 2045, contributing to regional and global peace, stability, and development, while ensuring its people enjoy a prosperous, modern, and fulfilling life./.
